It has come to light this week that the most pre-eminent broadcasting company in the world has lost the original recordings of its output for the entire day on September 11th 2001, just over five years on, yet no major news agency has even bothered to report the fact.

Despite being currently the biggest story on the internet and in the alternative media, the only place in the mainstream the story has appeared is on a small German news website.

The BBC has been forced to respond to footage showing their correspondent reporting the collapse of WTC 7 before it fell on 9/11, claiming tapes from the day are somehow missing, and refusing to identify the source for their bizarre act of "clairvoyance" in accurately pre-empting the fall of Building 7.

A leading expert on Osama Bin Laden has officially gone on the record saying that he believes the so called "9/11 Confession" tape, released shortly after the attacks, is an outright fake that has been used by US intelligence agencies to deflect attention from
"conspiracy theories" about 9/11.

Professor Bruce Lawrence, head of Duke University's Religious Studies program, joined Kevin Barrett last Friday on his radio show (gcnlive.com, 2/16/2007, first hour) in his first public interview since comments he made last year indicating that he believes Bin Laden may be dead and that many of the newer tapes are either fake or consist of old audio and video.

SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan (Reuters) - The Taliban have deployed 10,000 fighters for a spring offensive of "bloody attacks" against foreign troops in Afghanistan, a rebel commander said on Friday.

More than 4,000 people, a quarter of them civilians, were killed in fighting last year, the most violent year since the Taliban were ousted in 2001. NATO commanders and analysts warn this year could be just as bad or worse.

LONDON (Reuters) - Two new prisons are to be built to help ease overcrowding after watchdogs warned that the system is in crisis and could get worse.

Home Secretary John Reid announced plans on Friday for jails on Merseyside and in Woolwich, south London, to provide an extra 1,300 spaces.

The prison population has reached 80,000, the highest per capita in Western Europe, and the government wants to add room for at least another 8,000 inmates.

Whitehall sources said they would keep the four men under surveillance but they will not be placed under control orders, which would allow their movements to be restricted.

Tory homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said the Government was 'wishing another problem' upon Britain, adding: 'I just find it amazing that we bring back people apparently bent on Jihad. It really does beggar belief.'

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Officials of the U.S.-led coalition on Sunday showed what they said were examples of Iranian weapons used to kill 170 of their soldiers and implicated high-level Iranian involvement in training Iraqi militants.

A senior defence official from the U.S.-led Multinational Force in Baghdad told a briefing that 170 coalition troops had been killed by Iranian-made roadside bombs known as explosively formed penetrators (EFPs) that he said were smuggled into Iraq.

Officials showed reporters fragments of what they said were Iranian-manufactured weapons, including one part of an EFP -- which is strong enough to penetrate the armour of an Abrams tank -- and parts of 81 mm and 60 mm mortar bombs.

The United States accuses Iran of fanning violence in Iraq by giving sophisticated bomb-making technology, money and training to militant Shi'ite groups, some of whom have links with Iraq's Shi'ite-led government. Iran denies the allegation.

Some of Wales' police forces are not following a recommended driver training programme, BBC Wales has learned.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) has issued guidelines on police pursuits and driver training.

 

BBC current affairs programme Eye on Wales, North Wales Police is the only Welsh force which currently provides initial pursuit training.

South Wales and Gwent Police do not use the driving module. Dyfed-Powys did not give details "for operational reasons".

 

The chief constable of Gwent Police, Mike Tonge, said his officers received information about policy, procedure and guidelines in numerous ways.

"People are given training, get instructions from supervisors, have their driver training which makes all this clear," he said.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is expected to publish a report on 48 deaths which involved police vehicles in pursuit or answering emergency calls.

 

Four of the deaths involved Welsh forces.

The IPCC commissioner for Wales, Tom Davies, said the body was "disappointed at the reasons why these difficulties have not been reduced".

He said: "It is fair to say that these policies put into place to try and minimise these difficulties have not been implemented evenly across the UK."

More and more evidence of this type of over use of the stun gun by police is being may available on YouTube and other similar media sites. A video of a skateboarder being arrested by San Diego State Campus Police was posted on YouTube Thursday morning. The video, captured by a student's cell phone camera, shows police subduing 21-year old Josh Gandy and using a stun gun on him. Police say Gandy, who is not a student on the campus, refused to get off his skateboard and became threatening towards officers.
